CARIZON 281 ABS-Class Deck Cargo and Ballast Tank Barge

On 27 March, Carizon officially commenced construction of Carizon 281 , a multipurpose deck cargo and ballast tank barge, with a steel cutting ceremony held at our Batam yard. This milestone marks the beginning of the vessel’s build, representing a key step in expanding Carizon’s marine asset portfolio. Following the successful steel cutting ceremony earlier this year, Carizon has reached another key milestone with the keel laying ceremony for Carizon 281 on 25th May.

Carizon 281 will also be fitted with a D2-compliant ballast water management system, supporting environmentally responsible offshore operations while meeting modern international marine standards.

The steel cutting ceremony signifies the transition from planning and design into physical construction. As the first stage in the shipbuilding process, it lays the foundation for a vessel engineered to support a wide range of offshore and marine logistics operations. Whilst the Keel Laying marks the beginning of the vessel’s structural assembly, a significant stage where the first major hull section is laid, bringing the vessel one step closer to completion.

Vessel Overview and Specifications

Carizon 281 has been designed as a high-performance, versatile barge capable of meeting the evolving demands of the offshore sector.

Key Specifications:

  • Dimensions: 282ft x 90ft x 18ft
  • Deck Load Capacity: 20 tonnes per square metre
  • Classification: ABS Class
  • Construction Site: Batam, Indonesia
  • Target Delivery: August to October 2026

The vessel will feature a raking stem and transom stern, with a fully welded hull and a continuous freeboard deck extending from stem to stern. This structural configuration enhances durability, stability, and operational efficiency, making the barge well-suited for heavy cargo transport and offshore support applications.

Engineered for Performance and Environmental Responsibility

In addition to its structural capabilities, Carizon 281 is designed with environmental considerations in mind. The vessel will be equipped with a D2-compliant ballast water management system, allowing for effective treatment of ballast water prior to discharge. This reduces the transfer of harmful aquatic organisms and supports compliance with international environmental standards.

Combined with its high deck load capacity and robust construction, the barge is positioned to deliver reliable performance in demanding marine environments.

Supporting the Future of Offshore Operations

Carizon 281 reflects Carizon’s continued commitment to investing in fit-for-purpose marine assets that align with the needs of the offshore and energy sectors. As projects grow in scale and complexity, the demand for dependable, versatile vessels remains critical.

The company looks forward to the successful progression of Carizon 281 through its construction phases and its eventual deployment in supporting offshore logistics and heavy-duty transport operations.
